Hello,

After working for a couple for hours under Mac OS X 10.3.9, the application switcher (cmd-TAB) and the Exposé shortcuts (F9, F10, F11) suddenly cease to function. I suspect this might be caused by X11 (run in full screen mode using the fvwm2 window manager) and perhaps the Mac going to sleep, although OSX & X11 do coexist for a few hours. I cannot find any way to have these two great features (cmd-TAB & F9 etc.) to work again, unless I reboot.

I tried installing the Witch Window-stitcher when cmd-TAB & F9 etc were no longer working, but that failed to work too. After I rebooted, Witch worked fine. Interestingly, when Exposé seems no longer to work, if I go in System Preferences and add All Windows to a corner, that will work!

Does anyone know what is going wrong and how I can fix this?

The Dock controls Exposé and application switcher. In the terminal type killall Dock and see if that brings it back.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried

% sudo killall -HUP Dock

-> the F9 key and cmd-TAB still do not function...

Then I tried

% sudo killall Dock

-> and still no F9 nor cmd-TAB keys...

Will need to reboot...

Did you actually see the Dock restart when you did that?

I never do that. It's much easier to type tell application "Dock" to quit into AppleScript Editor and run the script.
