occassionally, quicktime will freeze everything when playing mpeg4 in fullscreen mode. I get an endlessly spinning beachball on a black screen and alt-apple-escape (force quit) is of no avail. or, IF the force quit dialog box comes up, I can't see it because quicktime has control of the screen. I'm forced to reboot. G4 sawtooth, 10.3.9, and QT 7 Pro.

Probably a problem with the DivX plugin, assuming you're talking about DivX AVIs. There are issues with DivX/QT7 on Tiger, and I imagine some of them might also occur under 10.3.9. Just a theory though.

i was going to ask if you had installed divx? it seems to "weird out" a couple of things.
2 help menubar items in some apps.
quicktime can't unminimize a video

and something i am not sure if it is divx or not, but a mouse cursor over the rss feed screensaver.

uninstall divx and see if it fixes it.
according to the divx forum they said they can't (won't?) release a patched version since they are so far into development of the next version. let's hope they hurry up with that

I have the divx plugin installed. damn POS is the worst mpg4 encoder of all time! I will happily uninstall it. I only kept it for playback. my vid is xvid, the 3ivx plugin should play it.
