I tried to do a search on this and nothing came up... so here it is.
If you minimize a window (send it to the Dock) in Tiger, the little application icon in the right hand corner of the icon appears in low resolution. This was not the case with Panther.
It is not a big deal, since you only see this if you are using the minimize effect of set the size of the Dock to maximum.... but what is the answer?
Does anyone know what is going on here?
Thanks,
t

It is an obvious bug that wasn't fixed with the 10.4.1 update. What can you do? Wait for Apple to fix the bug

Yeah, it works... it is just ugly... if you use that feature.

It's not ugly. It's the maximum resolution the screen allows it to have. Of course it is smaller than the application icon on the left side of the Dock, or it would fill up all the space.

TETENAL: I don't think you know what we are talking about....
I made a picture of it... here it is
...as you can see the minimized window icons looks great, but the application icon looks like crap. Once again, this is not that big of a deal. I don't even use this (magnification) feature at all, but some other Mac users pointed this out to me and I thought that I would ask.

Intteresting.
The problem appears to be that the application icon is scaled to the default size of icons in the the dock, whereas the window itself is scaled to 128x128 (and then subsequently scaled inline to the size of the dock). So, when magnification is on, the window can scale back up to 128x128 and look great, but the application icon scales larger than its natural size (hence the bilinear filtering used and the resulting "blurry" icon). The solution (for Apple) is to always scale application icons to 48x48.

This bug is only there if there is magnification on in the Dock. I don't use magnification, that's why I thought you were lying.

I'm running Tiger here at work and I don't seem to have this problem. Maybe it's video card related?
Look at my screenshot.

It looks like you're using Minimize In Place... isn't that part of the third-party WindowShade X? If so you should ask Unsanity to fix it, not Apple.

Not fixed here under 10.4.2 looks blurry here. All minimized apps have it here, even with non-Apple icons...

I don't got that problem...my dock behaves exactly like on TheSpaz's screenshot.
I find it weird that OS X behaves so differently from one machine to another machines. So many people have problems that have never been exhibited by any of the Macs I've been on.
Rule of thumb is to get rid of any 3rd-party hacks/haxies. If you got any application that is supposed to alter the OS, you're asking for trouble and shouldn't be here complaining. If you are not using any hacks, then you've got a valid excuse.
I don't want to accuse anyone but if you're using a hack or APE/haxie to change OS behaviors, please reconsider.

TheSpaz has a large Dock by default. You need to set the Dock to really really small and the have full maximization to see the problem.

I read somewhere that Tiger with Core Image compatible video cards do not have this blurry icon problem, only Tiger with older cards (pre 9600 and fx5200).

I did try it at the smallest icon size possible with the largest magnification size possible... I just didn't take a screenshot of it. It's still crystal sharp.

So can we assume that it has something to do with the video card then? t_hah, what computer are you experiencing this on?

Powerbook G4, 5200Go - I get the problem but not as severe as the screenshots here - it's only a tiny bit blurry.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

how about *this*?
this is the first time i have used my powerbook (1.25ghz g4 15") in a while. right now i decided to minimize my safari window and look at the icon. it was perfectly fine. i found this strange since i was _sure_ that both this powerbook and my imac (1.8ghz g5 17") were both blurry. then i unminimized(?) safari, tried proteus, and it was blurry. eh? then i minimized safari and it too was blurry now.
now any window i minimize has a blurry icon. i will edit this post once i have logged out and logged in again and see if i can recreate this.
-edit-
ok, on a log out log in, the icons are blurry. none of them came out nicely.
bizarre

Hmmm... strange indeed...
Wait a second... people were flaming me cause I don't like slow menus and these people with their "blurry icons" are posting and nobody seems to be telling them "It's just a small thing that nobody cares about and why should Apple fix it if it doesn't slow down your work at all". Man... this forum is crazy.
I think you all just hate me... that's why you pick on just me.
