Desktop background keeps going away

Hey all,
I have a powerbook that I use with an external monitor for a dual display. The external monitor is the primary monitor. Sometimes, when I disconnect the PB and use it solo, the desktop changes to a solid blue background...this remains even after I reconnect it. Is there a way to make the OS keep the original desktop background? I think the OS is supposed to handle this, as about 50% of the time it does, but not always.

Also, when I go to change the background back in System Preferences, the background I want is already selected. I have to change it to something else and change it back to get it to switch though. Any thoughts?

I've been having this EXACT same problem. Glad I'm not the only one.

Try repairing permissions then setting it again.

You may have a corrupted preferences file, but I don't know the name of the file associated with saving the background.

I use my PB hooked up to a ACD 20". I used to have this EXACT same problem when I was running Panther. Under, Tiger it hasn't happened...yet.

I've tried repairing permissions...no change. Maybe it's just a bug in Panther.
