Its not the files per se - but more disks, disk images, and so on. I know I can remove them from the Finder, but then I don't have something that suits me as far as being easy to access. I know I can have the Finder window open and put them on the side - but then its one more window to manage. Frankly, what would suit me best is to have my Finder completely be a Dashboard like layer.
F10 doesn't answer it either. It still opens windows up for file management. I've been using Mac OS since 7.1 and for the first time in 10.4 I've really come to despise the Finder (not because the Finder has gotten worse) because my eyes have been opened to having a totally different layer like what Dashboard has.
