im new to unix commands and i wonder if there is a way to show progress in the terminal for when copying or moving large files?

Only if the particular CLI executable draws one themself.
[Wevah setPostCount:[Wevah postCount] + 1];

You could write a shell script that does it for you, and then alias them to cp and mv in bash. I'm sure if you google around for a bit that you could find something on the net.
