Hi everyone!
Just converted to Mac, I purchased a Mini as a starter(hopin to move up in the world to a G5 sometime) but anyway, My wifes XP box can see my mac on our wired network and I can see her pc on the mini. Problem is i can only transfer file from the pc to the mac. When i try to connect to the pc i allways get a "original item can not be found" with a option to fix alias.. ive searched and havent found any help.
thanks in advance
Jason

that's odd, I never came across that problem.
The way I go from mac -> PC, is I have a shared folder on the PC set to allow anyone to access, and read/write to it. Then on the Mac, I go to the finder, hit command+K (or Go menu, "connect to server"), and enter smb://192.168.x.x/ (use the IP of your XP machine, or the name of it (smb://XPmachine/). When you do that, you'll be prompted to select a share, do that. Then you'll be prompted to login, at this point, you should be able to just hit enter and be connected. You'll then see the XP share in your finder as a shared server,, and you can drop files to it, or take files from it.
I dont know if that helped, or made matters more confusing, but let me know if you have anymore questions or need more help with this.

OS X Finder chokes when trying to access Windows shares that are typed with non-standard capitalization. This bug has been around since Panther, and I've filed a report on it.
For example, if your wife's PC is called WINXP, Finder tries connecting to some computer named Winxp that doesn't exist. This happens to me all the time.
The only way around is to hit Cmd-K for a manual connection and type smb://WINXP/ (or whatever the computer name is).
For things to run smoothly, keep Windows machine names all lowercase.
By the way, welcome to the world of the Mac. Most things work better on Macs than they do in Windows, honest!

Have you installed Bonjour for Windows on the PC? Although it's not strictly necessary if all you want is to share files between machines, it can make the process much easier.
