I'm trying to install WMP on my iBook but it's firing up VLC to handle the .bin extension. I'm an Apple newbie, how do I handle this. The Microsoft site says I should just be able to double click and install it.

Download and install StuffIt Expander 9.0. You can search for it @ versiontracker.com

The .bin is like a zip file, so you need something to extract it with (in this case StuffIt Expander 9.0). After you extract it you may get a .dmg, or the installer, in which case double clicking on them will carry you on.

Hope it helps you, and good luck with your mac experience

I recommend Macupdate.com instead of versiontracker... its easier on the eyes and is usually more up to date. Plus its ONLY Mac software.

But good answer none-the-less.

Sounds like VLC has claimed the .bin file extension (which can also be for certain types of Video CDs, I think). Get info on it and change what it is set to open with.

Also, I believe Stuffit automatically decodes MacBinary files as they're downloaded.
