My mac has been extremely slow...

i am typing this message and it gets 5 letters down and freezes for ten seconds and loads in what i was typing during those seconds.

I went to grab a file off the desktop so i move Safari and go to the folder and double click. 6 secs later it opens it.

I took this file to my ftp program and it hung there thinknig for about 20 secs before it asked to replace the file.

then going back to report this to you guys and its took 7 secs for it to load up the forum index

Why is my mac going so slow? and these Smilies look bad moving at a frame per 5 seconds.

You have given us no information about your system. How are we supposed to know what's wrong with it?

Boot from the install disk and run disk utility on the hard drive and try repairing the disk.

Optimizing his computer won't make a difference since the only thing it does is decrease the load time of applications that you are launching.

To go back to the original post though, I assume you've already restarted your computer, but if for some reason you haven't, do so now. Besides that, launch Activity Monitor ( located in /Applications/Utilities), sort by CPU %, and see if anything is eating up your processing power.

I've experienced similar lags with my machine and have had luck with Optimizing the drive.

The slow input is something I often get with Safari. It helps to quit, re-launch the app, or simply use Firefox!
