The one you are booted to comes up on top. What about the others? Is there a logic on order how they appear or a way to order them? thanks

Fron the Finder View Menu: Show View Options, Keep Arranged By (a popup with options for date, kind, size, etc)

Works for me, although I have two drives/4 partitions so I don't show them on the desktop - don't want HD icons interfering with my organized clutter on the right side of the desktop.

unless you keep your desktop sorted by another criterion, the order is alphabetical if mounted simultaneously, and in order of mounting after that (from top right to bottom left).

Talking about hard drives, has anyone noted that in Tiger, when you clone a system drive with Disk Utility, the invisible symlinks (/etc, /tmp, /var) on the source drive become visible on the destination drive: at least, so it is on my external firewire backup drive, even after having repeatedly rebooted from it.

Strange: this didn't happen in Panther...
