Because according to those chart a dualie 2.7 GHZ Powermac ranges from being anywhere from 98% to 117% Faster than a Dual Xeon 3.6 and up to 150% faster than a single 3.6 Ghz P4.
Ugh...

The benchmarks used Photoshop for Windows versus Photoshop for OS X.
As long as the benchmarks for Photoshop for OS X Intel shows the same performance boost or better, they can always claim that OS X under any platform is still a better performer than Windows.

Yep, newportnews, and they probably will. Anything to pretend that they're actually switching to a superior architecture.

We can cry "superior archatecture" until we are blue in the face, but at the end of the day, I feel Apple has a better idea of what's in the pipeline from both IBM and Intel.

Yes, they do, and that's the piece all us armchair analysts are missing. I have to suspect that there is either no successor to the 970 planned, or that successor is not suitable for some reason.

Since when has rationale been a requirement for Jobs to make a stunning decision?

Agreed... Steve got pissed off when the mythical (clearly "vaporwear") 3GHz G5 never arrived from IBM so he ripped them a new one. Then M$ and Sony show up with a huge order for PPC based Cell processors for thier new console so IBM tells Steve to shove it. He had NO choice but to go crawling back to Intel and beg them for "Intel Inside" stickers to put on the new laptops.
This is a sad day after years of telling us the PPC was superior all of sudden it's not good enough Macs anymore? Yeah right
Ironically today we just starting installing software on FIVE brand new dual 2GHz G5 here at work in order to upgrade our three year old G4s. Maybe we should have just got some processor upgrade cards and waited it out another two years
