Ok my HDD funked out and now I can't get my mac to boot from it. I can get target mode going and ran diskwarrior and disk utility etc and its all repaired. Even disk utility says its bootable but when I set it to boot in startup disk or hold option at boot no go. Any one knowof a trick to bring the boot blessing back?

This is one of the very few times with OS X that resetting the PRAM may actually make a difference. Did you try that? Reboot and then hold down command-option-P-R until you hear a second chime.

Try resetting open firmware. As you power up hold down Cmd-Opt-O-F. If this gets you a screen do the following:
at the prompt, type
reset-nvram <press return key>
set-defaults <press return>
reset-all <press return>
and then to exit, type bye or mac-boot and return
