Would this be possible?
Apple switches to Intel. Microsoft allows Longhorn to be compatible with the new PowerMacs w/intel.
Now every Apple user is a 'possible' switcher back to PC's. If you get fed up with your Apple, you format your drive and load Windows.
This begs another question. What if we can now boot Windows and OS X on each machine. Partition the drive and have two systems in one. A Univeral Computer in a sense. It would be netter than VPC because it would use the actual hardware...not the emulators which are slow.
Just throwing this out there.
What do you think?

Use one of the 2 million other threads please.
An no it's not a sneaky move by Microsoft. They have nothing to do with it.

You could also look at this as a way to convince PC users to buy Macs because they can use Windows on the same computer. For people who are interested in OS X but afraid to transition completely for fear of losing support for certain pieces of software, an Intel-based Mac would be extremely useful.

I'd buy an Intel-based Apple box where I could boot into Windows the minute it comes out. That would truly be my dream machine. (Well, almost...)

I don't prefer Windows by any means, but being able to boot into it for whatever reason would be amazingly useful for a few things. Working with WMV files would be much easier, as would networking with my roommate's PC and a few other things. I wonder, if you were to boot into Windows with an Intel Mac, how well would games run? Would I have to get a different video card to swap in when I feel like gaming? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Uh - here's a simple choice. I'm in the market to buy a PC in 2007. Do I buy a Dell or some other box which just runs Windows, or do I buy one of those stylish Apple machines which have the same mechanics as the Dell but much nicer aesthetics - and can tun both Windows and Mac OS X ?

honestly, the Dell due to a much better warranty/service plan. and better pricing, but the biggest rieason is the waranty/service plan.

I'm fed up with all this virus-free nonsense. I want my spyware back.
Sneaky indeed.

No MS wouldn't do that because they charge PC manufacturers to pre-load windows on the system. They will not get many Mac to PC converts.
