Basically I don't think my RAM is emptying after I close down all my Apps (including Dashboard and it's widget). Even after I had no apps running, looking in Activity Monitor showed that there was still 220MB active, not the system.

I'm running OS X 10.4.1, on a 17inch iMac G4. I have fitted extra RAM, however that was atleast 8months ago and I have not had any problems.

I did a restart yesterday after the security update and my RAM emptied, however since then it has stayed at about 220MB.

Is it normal for the general processes to take up about 220MB (not including the Wired)? Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

The OS caches a lot of things in memory. It's not supposed to empty out. Empty memory = unused memory = wasted memory.

I see what you mean, it's just that usually when I close down all my apps there is hardy any RAM being used. Then again maybe I just didnt notice it was this much before, anyway thanks for your help, anyone else got any more input?

If you're getting a lot of swapping without many apps open, that will be a sign that something's wrong. But like I said, just having RAM used isn't bad.
