I just installed Tiger on my G4 iMac. Spotlight is still indexing after three hours. All apps...especially Microsoft Office apps are very slow. What's happening here? Could anyone help me with this? Thank you,

If it's still indexing it will feel slow, because Spotlight will be using quite a lot of CPU. Once it's finished it should feel fine.

Thanks for your reply. Now Spotlight is done indexing and it seems to work. However, other apps..like Word is very slow. It takes good 45 seconds to open. Is it normal to hear "click, click, I'm working" sound from CPU when I try to open apps? I'm thinking mabe I should've done Archive and Install instead of Upgrade? I wanted to install Tiger on my PB as well. Which installation would you recommend? pros and cons? Thank you very much for your help!

If applications are launching inordinately slowly you've got some sort of RAM issue - either too little free (which causes the system to overuse virtual memory and results in disk thrashing) or malfunctioning RAM. Before you do anything else, restart your system and see if that returns things to normal. Concerning your question, upgrade install is not the favored approach, but it usually works just fine.
