I installed Jaguar on a Beige G3,
after the install, it reboots, starts up and nothing is displayd but a blue background and a mouse pointer, i can move the mouse but the keyboard doesn't seem to function ?
What could be the problem ?
G3 Beige 266@300, 256RAM, 3GB HD, 16MB Rage 128.

Yeah, unfortunately you do have to have OS 9 to update your firmware. That may or may not be the problem, though.

Something must be here:
http://www.apple.com/support/powermac/g3/
But, I am not sure about firmware being the problem, I see you have attached an ATI Rage 128 to your Mac, so what is about the original video card, is it a PCI one or is it an onboard card?

I see only SCSI firmware updates for your PowerMac related to Mac OS X:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
The Jaguar readme inside the install disc says:
"Updating your computer's firmware
Before you install Mac OS X, you may need to update your computer’s firmware. You
must do so before you can install Mac OS X. You can find firmware updates for your
computer on the Apple Software Updates Web site:
www.info.apple.com/downloads/
For example, if you have a Power Macintosh G3 (Beige) computer with an Apple Ultra
Wide SCSI PCI card, you should update the firmware for the card using the Mac OS X
SCSI Card Updater available on the Apple Software Updates Web site.
Check for other updates by using Software Update preferences. "
But if you have no SCSI card
Did you get any advice about the HD size being not enough?
Have you there the original from factory video card? (to try to install Jaguar with it instead the ATI 128).

The machine is a rev.1 Beige 266MT.
I'm installing Jaguar without the Rage128 as we speak.
Where can i check my fiemware version in OS9 ?
I booted to Open Firmware, but the monitor is blank so i blind-typed boot to get to MacOS.
I also noticed that the Starting MacOS X box is in the centre of the screen but disappears fast, whats wrong ?
I reformatted my HD, installed OS9 and now i'm trying to install Jaguar again.

So you can not get into Mac OS X…
You have both, Mac OS 9 and Jaguar in the same partition, right?, I can not remember if under your PowerMac they must be in different partitions or if only one partition was OK. What I can remember is that if you have partitions, Mac OS X must be installed into the first 8 GB partition of the disk, but your hard disk is smaller than that.

What kind of install did you do? If you installed everything with the installation you might have filled the hard drive up to a point that it can't boot properly. If you do just a base install it will slim the total space taken to around 1GB.
Also, if you have 2 RAM modules you could always try removing one to see if it will help. OSX is very picky with RAM.

I have 2 separate partitions, 1GB for OS9 and 2GB for OS X, i installed the Base system, so the drive couldn't be filled up.

I do not think that 2GB can be enough for Jag and the apps it installs, to leave any space to do anything else, like swap files etc. OSX will not work properly if there is no room for the latter. HD space is cheap these days, $50 gets you 40GB and I'm sure you can do even better! 20GB drives should be much less, and you would have a lot more wiggle room.
