I'm not sure if this is unique to my Mac (G5 2.0GHz Dual) or if anyone else has had this issue, but I was having terrible problems with the Navigation Pane appearing in Tiger. Basically, any "Open.." or "Save As..." operation would then lead to a 30-60 second SBBOD while waiting for the window to open so I could find my file or folder. Even a clean, virgin install of 10.4 on my HD with the data zeroed out and no apps installed did it. I thought it could be my two external FW drives but it also did it with them disconnected.
I tried everything to get around it and finally found the problem. Seems that with my iDisk set to automatically sync, every time the Nav. Pane appears it is rooting around in the iDisk, which causes the slowdown. I have a 3 Meg web connection - Hardly slow - So it shouldn't be an issue but there you go. Switching to "Manual" sync of the iDisk, while not ideal, cured the issue.
I'd like to find out if anyone else has this issue or if someone has a theory as to why this is happening; Anyone have any theories? BTW - The internal HD was "awake" - Wasn't spun down and the processor performance setting in the Energy Saver Pref Pane didn't affect it at all.
