It's the shitty Canon Button Manager that spams the Console when no scanner is attached. Canon refuses to fix this which can by now - after years - only be considered an act of computer-sabotage.

The solution is to uninstall the shitty Canon Button Manager stuff and do without it (who initiates a scan from the scanner button anyway).

It should be in /Library/CFMSupport and has a name CanonButtonManager or similar. The scanner driver installer installed two of them for me. Drag them to the trash, reboot, then empty the trash.

The button manager is writing this message every second or so to the log which means your drive is constantly accessed, never can be sent to sleep, you have a giant log file etc. This is a very nasty thing to do and Canon knows about the problem for years now. It seems they just don't care about their customers.

youre right! min my Library/CFMSupport I have N067U_buttonmanager and N123U_buttonManager., I can't put either in the trash as they are 'In Use"

N124U_Library.shlb
N067U_ButtonManager
N124U_ButtonManager
rmslantc_carbon.shlb
N067U_Library.shlb
NBS4mb_carbon.shlb

theses are a few other things. I do use a canon LiDE USB scanner but only from Photoshop. any further ideas?

thanks seems like a good idea to get rid of them if possible

I have those library things still there. I believed they are required by the Photoshop plug-in and I'm not aware of any negative effect of those.

I don't remember how I removed the button managers. Maybe booting in safe mode (hold down shift while booting) allows you to trash them.

If you only use the Photoshop plug-in then the button manager is of no use for you anyway.

Before your post i realized I might be able to turn off the tow buton managers in the Activity Monitor which I did and then the trash took them. Ive left the rest and my scanner works as it did before with ScanGear plug in in photoshop.

Ive also looked in the console.log and that stuff is no longer there!

thanks for the tips! now I have to find a good placve to learn about the consollog and the system log to see what they can tell me from time to time.

thanks for your help.

Now that you say it I remember that's exactly what I did too to trash them.

Since the processes are running in the background, you cannot just drag them to the trash from the CFMSupport directory. Launch Activity Monitor from your Utilities and choose Quit Process. You can then trash them easily.

Hope this helps.
