I was in a slightly paranoid mood last night, so I turned on File Vault for the first time. It took forever, then nothing seemed to work. So I turned it off. That took forever. And it seems like permissions are royally screwed. Nearly everything is owned by system. I've been using Get Info to change ownerships back to me, but iTunes refuses to recognize my music library. What gives?

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm on a PowerBook 17" 1.5 GHz running OS X 10.3.9 Panther.
Scooters are more fun than computers and only slightly more frustrating

Turn off File Vault and create an encrypted disk to store sensitive stuff.
