when i'm checking my email first thing in the morning, there are usually about 200+ incoming, what with all the overnight spam that's accumulated. i cannae believe how slow tiger is at processing the mail, compared to panther.

if i open mail's 'activity viewer' window, first i get the "downloading message xxx of xxx" progress bar - which seems to advance at pretty much the same speed it always did. next comes an "evaluating message xxx of xxx" bar [which is obviously the spam filter kicking in]. this takes an absolute age to finish progressing at a rate of about a second or more for each message. then i get another progress bar - something to do with "updating cache" which also crawls along at about the same rate as the 'evaluating' progress bar. it can take a good three to five minutes or so for all these various tasks to complete and for my mail to be ready to read.

again, i'm sure it wasnae anywhere near this sluggish in panther.

I've noticed within the last week Mail taking a long time to load my inbox. The funny thing is I have no messages in it. It's just an account I setup with my domain name that only 1 or 2 people know to e-mail me at. Odd.

I doubt this helps you out madra but I just thought I'd post my two cents.
