I've just got two items left on my internal Mac HD which I'm thinking of putting on my data files on external HD: Microsoft User Data, and I tunes library.

Aliases', though, break, right? Curious if others would not recommend it. thanks.

Why are you moving the files off your internal drive? Aliases can work to point to other drives, and they usually don't break. But it's a better idea, when possible, to point the programs in question to the proper locations of the folders on the other drive.

Aliases are actually pretty tough to break. Your one problem is if some program wants to access something in that folder and is too dumb to follow the alias. Only way to find out if that is the case is to try it. I'm pretty sure iTunes is okay with it. Not sure about MS, but you can try it.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
