that is...after provding that computer with some more RAM?

The osx install CD's that came with my new iMac say iMac G5 on them, but does the version that ships with new computers at all come prepped for that particular model? It doesn't make any sense to me that it would, but I figured I'd ask.

Why don't you try and see for yourself? These forums don't generally support piracy.

one awesome ability of themacs is to just slap in a drive that has a system on it and it will run on any mac...

so yes it will work... it's just an OS install disk...

and I dont really see how this is piracy!

Nope. You can boot from an OEM disk, but most will check what kind of computer they're in and tell you to go jump in a lake if it's not the kind the disk was meant to go with. I don't recall which do and which don't offhand, except that I know the eMac disks don't, but I think the iMac G5 falls into the "do" category.

He hasn't paid for a license to install the OS from that disk on his iBook. Using software without paying for it is piracy. See it now?

y'know, there are two things that i've generally seen this forum not support. 1) free [mac product] links and also, often, generally being a dick. note, piracy's not on the list and note that you've squarely put yourself in the second category.

it is a simple question. If you know the answer the thing to do is answer. if you don't, then don't. seems simple enough, right?

How is he being a dick? How hard is it to try it yourself? Honestly, what's the worst that could happen in your trying? Worst-case you get a message stating that the software couldn't be installed on this machine.

In the 12 minutes between you posting this thread, and Chuckit's initial reply you could have found out.

Okay. I offer a reasonable suggestion to keep from having either of us banned or getting this thread locked — didn't insult you or anything, just stated facts — and I'm a dick for that. Like I said, I don't remember whether or not it will work, but you can find out by putting a tiny smidgeon of effort into the matter yourself. Good grief.

Is your next post going to be, "What happens if I hit this 'Copy' button in the TextEdit menu?" If you could find out the answer in one minute just by trying, you shouldn't be posting the question in the first place anyway.

i suggest you read the forum rules again and you will see that piracy is *not* tolerated. and if you were to actually search the forums before asking a question that has been asked dozens of times already you will see that every person that asks this gets told many times that they are not licenced to install on another computer.
