I have a small network going with 3 macs running os 10.4 and an iMac running os 10.4 server. I have dhcp and dns configured and it seems to work ok, I created a zone, (domain.net) and an A record for the server. Everything seems to work ok, I can ping the server with the FQDN or just the host name, however I can not ping the dhcp clients with the host name or the FQDN. Shouldn't the dhcp clients be registering themselves in dns? The log has the following errors:
"update 'domain.net/IN' denied"

As far as I know, DHCP clients don't automatically get DNS names. You've gotta assign 'em yourself.

This is correct. You have to do it yourself. In 10.4 Server, you would want to give your permanent machines a static IP address in the DHCP server. Then, you would give each of those IPs a name in the DNS server. This way, they have static IPs and DNS names, but you are still controlling everything from the server (i.e. if you wanted to change something, you do it once on the server, not on each individual machine).
