A month or more ago there was a sizable flap about the security risk of the Dashboard widget system. Both the 'This-is-the-most-terrible-Windows-style-disaster-ever' side and the 'Not-a-problem-*yawn*' crowd seemed to score good points, but the subject seemed to disappear after 10.4.1. This even though those troubled by the original issue said that the fix in 10.4.1 was worthless. Has a consensus developed? Are widgets a golden invitation to Trojans and worms and all? Or is this whole thing just molehill?

Confused.

With 10.4.1, Safari will now warn you that you're downloading a widget, and no longer autoinstalls them either. For me, that's enough, since I actually pay attention to what the dialogs say. 10.4.2, however, increases this even further by offering a protected area to test widgets in and a manager to delete widgets. So after that update is released, there should really be nothing to worry about.

Thank you, Thinine.

Now less confused.
