What is the best way to transfer certain data from my Powerbook g4 to my new g5 tower? I understand setting up a network, but what about specific stuff like iTunes? I don't want to lose my playlists, info like how many times a song has been played, etc. Thanks.

Have a look here.

This describes how to transfer an iTunes library from a PC to a Mac, but the same idea can be used when transfering from one Mac to another. Just replace the old music file location with the new one in the .xml file. Just remember to keep all your old music directories in the same layout on the new comp, otherwise you'll have trouble.

EG: If on the old comp you have
~/Music/iTunes/U2/The Joshua Tree/03 - With Or Without You.m4a
don't change it to
~/Music/iTunes/U2 - The Joshua Tree/03 With Or Without You.m4a
or
~/Music/iTunes/U2 - The Joshua Tree - 03 - With Or Without You.m4a
etc
on the new one.

Hope this helps.

Use the migration assistant. It fires up when you originally set up the new computer. It will suck over ALL your settings, files, playlists, preferences, email., etc., and it takes < 30 minutes. It's sweet.

You need a firewire cable to do this.

If you've bought anything from the iTunes Music Store, you also need to make sure to first authorize the new computer and then de-authorize the old one. Strictly speaking you don't have to de-authorize the old computer, but if you don't then it will continue to count against the number of machines you can authorize, and that would be a Bad Thing.
