An important disk image I use, I noticed that new folder was greyed out. So I looked at permissions, and it said read only and everything else was grayed out.

So I changed it to my username.

But now, It wont even mount -- so I'm now completely lost what to do.

I did a repair permission and disk repair of the mac volume, no help.

Have you tried copying the disk image and mounting the copy? Have you tried another disk image to verify the mounter is acting properly? Have you tried mounting it on a different computer? I cannot see how permissions would affect mounting in any way, except in the case that you gave your account no access to the file.

What's on this image?
Where did it come from?
Did you *create* this image?

Was "New Folder" enabled while using this image before?
Had you ever *created* new folders on this image before?

You mean the mounted image (disk/volume) was read-only?
You mean like 99.9% of all the disk images distributed daily?
(Or did you mean the perms on the "*.dmg" image file itself?)

WHAT did you change to your username?
How did you change it to your username?
What name was it set to originally?

Like I said, most of the images we encounter daily are read-only,
unless you specifically created this image to be read/write... then
you should have said so. What do I really think is wrong here???

I won't say.

called Apple. It's a permissions issue as usual. Going to archive and install.

Um, if the permissions are set wrong on this disk image, reinstalling the OS is not going to fix it.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I have no idea if permissions were set wrong, but the Apple tech, created a uber root user which opened the disk, so I'm off to archive or later even erase and install -- having a lot of problems since installing Tiger.

After which, your disk image will probably still not open, because reinstalling the OS will not change the permissions of a disk image.

Between this thread and your last about permissions, it's clear you have no idea what you're doing. You need to step away from the computer and go ask someone to explain things. You'll be wasting your time if you reinstall.
