I just got a new powerbook 1gz. I upgraded it to the OS to 10.3

I tried running software update and it kept crashing when I tried to instal Quicktime. Then I tried to open Quicktime and everytime I do, it crashes.

Also when I use Safari it keeps crashing as well. If I go to apple.com and click on quicktime tab it will crash.

I just got a 1gb stick of RAM. Could this be the what is causing this?

I've only had the computer for a week, I don't see what the issue could be.

Could it be a bad harddrive or bad ram?

Is it software or hardware?

Thanks.

I just ran a hardware test via the CD and everything passed on both the quick/extended tests.

Anyway, I restarted my computer and an error box came up that set my date was set to year 1971 and I should fix it.

I got this message once before as well.

Why would that keep resetting itself?

Does this help with understanding the problem?

Try booting off the OS X Install CD. Run first aid from the disk utility. Overlapped Extents (aka overlapped files) is the most likely explanation.

Assuming this is the case, the following applies: If you have Disk Warrior, you can figure out which files are overlapped. Depending on how many there are, it may be easier to format and reinstall. If there aren't too many, you can delete the overlapped files and rerun Disk Warrior. You will probably still have to reinstall, depending on which files were damaged. If it's just QuickTime, you can Install it from the Apple site.

ACSA 10.4/10.3, ACTC 10.3, ACHDS 10.3

I finally got my computer in sort of working order... I had to use target firewire mode and load software via my iMac. I install 10.3.2, but did all the updates via the iMac as well.

so far it's worked, but just a second ago it paused.

I have a strange feeling it's the memory stick I have and not the computer/software.

I have had this kinda thing happen as well on my G5. I too upgraded to Tiger and almost everytime I go to the HD section of the Quicktime website or try to view a slideshow in either iPhoto or through mail the whole computer will freeze causing me to have to manually reboot the computer. I'll see if I can get a copy of disk warrior and try that.
