I'm getting these strange dialogue boxes almost everytime I quit an application saying something like i.e.:

“iTunes. New Settings.

New settings have been created for the application iTunes. Do you want to use the new settings as your defaults?

YES NO”

Same happened with the Epson 880 application, Cinema 4D, Mail, etc.

In the name of God , what is this?

I know that when an application crashes, the crash dialog offers the option of restarting the app with new a preference file. I'm not sure, but it may be that after you quit the app for the first time after such an event that it would offer to keep the new preference file. I'm not sure though, since I've never seen what you're talking about.

See what Apple says about it : http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301084

I have not seen it happen unless there was a crash!

Same here. I've only ever seen it when an application crashed and the Mac OS asked me whether to re-start the application with clean preferences or not.

You're right guys, it always happens after my applications crash. When I quit after reopening them that's when the “New Settings” dialogue comes off. It's really annoying, I'd wish there was a better way of dealing with this situation....

I just turned off the "Hey, the application has unexpectedly quit, which you can tell due to the fact that it's not there anymore" dialog box.

I've been getting the same messages too...without any app crashes. 10.4.1 on a titanium 500

You gotta tame the beast before you let it out of its cage.

I did a bit more searching of my system. The exact name that appeared in the "attention" dialog box was that of "SyndicationAgent" according to Spotlight. I have no idea what it means.
