iMovie does not recognize Widescreen

I have an iMac 2 GHz 20" connected to a Sony HC 90 camcorder. Video shot in 16:9 format will only download into iMovie in 4:3 format. If I download same footage into my Powerbook, also bundled with iLife 05, iMovie instantly recognizes the format and downloads it in widescreen. The iMovie Prefernces menu on my Powerbook has "import" options forthe letterbox format. The same iMovie Preferences menu on my iMac does not list any "import" options, and I have been unable to locate them on other menu items. Since both my machines have iLife 05, can anyone explain this discrepancy and how I can activate the Widescreen option on my iMam?
