Sounds weird, but after I upgraded to Panther, my G3 TiBook makes the screengrab shutter sound. It happens at irregular intervals. No screengrabs show up on the desktop, but the paranoid in me thinks I have some sort of spyware. Has anyone else come across this?

Perhaps the keyboard shortcut for taking screengrabs was inadvertently changed? Also, search thoroughly for new files after you hear the sound. If it is indeed a screengrab the file must be somewhere (desktop? pictures folder? home dicrectory?).

Or perhaps the screengrab sound has been set to play for a particular event? A prank maybe?

Don't worry about spyware. I have yet to find any on my mac.

double check the key strokes for a screen shot in System Prefs> Keyboard and Mouse> Keyboard Shortcuts.
