It seems that many widgets are long bars that then expand into rectangular areas. While space-efficient, I don't like the idea of widgets overlapping each other. Do most of you have your widgets spread out so that they don't overlap, or does this not matter to you? I don't know why I'm curious, but I am.

Which means that you also have a lot of blank space when the widgets aren't expanded, right?

The screen is pretty full actually, but some blank space is present.

The ones that I have permanently open: Flip Clock, iCal Events, Weather; DashOpener, iTunes, and now Calculator, are neatly and non-overlappingly laid out on the right and left (separated by the semicolon in the list) of the screen. DashOpener opens widgets in the middle of the screen so conveniently this is left free for anything else I might want. On a 12" screen some 3rd party widgets are a bit much, mainly the games ones, but for irregular usage they're mainly okay, and with DashOpener to avoid the nasty ripple, I'm still enjoying it .

For some reason my widgets keep drifting about, Apple's weather widget is the worst culprit.
So not much organisation here.

This explains your weather widget woes: http://forums.macnn.com/90/mac-os-x/261877/my-weather-widget-is-falling/

What I would like to see in a future Dashboard update is some means to auto-tile my widgets rather than having to do it manually...

I agree... expose already does it, just incorporate expose into dashboard to do the tiling.

Right now mine are spaced out, seperated into 3 columns. Left, Center, Right. Left and Right have the nonresizing widgets. The center is for dictionary and a movie times widget that do resize.

If you edit com.apple.dashboard.plist you can see the x and y axis settings for each widget you have open. I have multiple weather and world clock widgets, so I positioned each where I wanted them, restarted the Dock (which restarts Dashboard), then edited the plist to make the sure the X axis was the same for each weather and world clock widget.

You can really get things lined up with a little patience. Afterwards, use Get Info to lock the .plist file so that Dashboard can't change it again. After that, your widgets will stay where you put them...

Actually, this bothered me too when I first started Dashboard (only for a few minutes, though). I now leave the expanding widgets (Dictionary, Wikipedia, Google Maps, and PearLyrics) across the bottom, with enough room for them to open. No gaps, and there's even room for the widget bar to pop up below them.

It's also nice having a nice big monitor. Helps a lot with the widget positioning. =)
