In panther (and any other mac os actually) dragging files onto a cd or onto a network would make a little green + appear and would copy it to the destination.

Now I have Tiger and when i go to do the same procedure it creates aliases instead of copying! very frustrating, as the only way to copy now is to hold down the alt key.

Somebody help as I now have to face the prospect of teaching a room full of non mac users to do this when they need to burn a cd on my mac.

Thanks x

Why can't they just use the alias way? I believe the reason it does this is to reduce the time it takes to burn a CD. When the CD burns, it still burns the actual files, not just the aliases.

Yes it's true. The actual files are burnt and not the aliases. I like the improvement but must say that it may be a little confusing...

Thanks guys for the clarification, I will proceed as normal...although if it's not broke...

I remember how long it took me to get used to shift-apple-n over apple-n!

Later.

The problem is that it was broke. It got quite annoying to wait for an entire CD just to copy itself before burning. What a waste of time that was.
