Hi,

For some reason, I accidentally erased the Spotlight prefpane and the corresponding preference pane has disappeared from the System Preferences.

I can't seem to find the prefpane from the Tiger install disk.

Does anyone know where I can find the file?

Thanks.

well you probably will have to use pacifist or reinstall 10.4

An admin account is for doing admin functions, and a normal account is for doing normal, day 2 day functions. If you had been in a normal account, this would not be an issue. In fact is is rarely necessary to even log in to an admin account even to do admin functions. It can save you a lot of headaches.

You can use Pacifist (link in my sig) to get the pref pane back.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

how did you erase the pref pane?/

you have to go into system/library/etc,
drag it to the trash, and put in your password to confirm...

yikes.

(i deleted the superfluous "classic" pref pane that way...on purpose)

I wasn't paying attention...

I was trying to erase the Spotlight .plist file...

I did a search for it with Spotlight iself.... and accidentally erased the prefpane instead of the plist file.

I was not even concerned when OS X asked me for my password!

Oh, well.... We live and learn!
