Hello,

I wasn´t sure, wether the firewall is an application or part of the OS, so I post here.

I have a tool that opens a socket port. The port number is choosen by the OS, the app. just asks for a free one.

So you dont know which port you have to open in the firewall, because its everytime a new port.
In Windows XP SP2 I can open the firewall for specific applications, not only for specific ports.

Can I say something like 'Dont block any inbound ports for application XY pls' in Tiger as well?

thx,
Sepp

Applications still have ranges of ports, look up the range in the documentation and open all of them. Unlike Windows, the firewall doesn't work application-wise, but globally for all apps. So you can't open a range of ports just for a specific app.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
