Hi all,
just wondering -- does creating a Documents folder in the disk root somehow wreak havoc with OS X? A client absolutely insists on having one there -- or, as he so charmingly put it: c:/documents/... . It's been a while that haven't seen the good old c:/ (try writing the correct c:backslash and you get a smilie here) and I can't remember ever seeing it on OS X except in VPC, but there you go... it's his XServe after all

It shouldn't cause issues, but it sounds to me like he's still stuck in Crazy Windows Land.

Then he was using a really old version of windows, too. Newer versions save My Documents under [drive]:/Documents and Settings/[user name].

Thanks! I've SSH-ed into his XServe and planted a nice big /Documents right in the middle of the fragile system files and tender system directories.

You really shouldn't do this, even if it doesn't directly cause issues. You are allowing your client to dictate bad security processes. Give him a Documents folder on his Desktop and make him use that.
