I installed the 10.4.2 update, and now Mac Help does not work. Anyone else have this problem? Any idea how to restore it?

No other probs with the update so far, knock on wood.

Thanks!

My Mac help didn't work on 10.4.1 and now it seems to partially work. Some links just don't work. It only seems to be the help about the Mac though. Other help files seem to work OK.

I actually find it better if you go into /Library/Documentation/MacHelp.help. It's just like a package so you right-click and show package contents. Then you can browse pages in Safari.

I also discovered that there are about 120MB of localisations you won't need. If you get rid of the languages you are not using, it seems to help things out a bit.

I called Apple Support, and they had me delete those help files (but not the finder file) just as you suggested. They also had me change accounts. After neither solution worked, I had to re-install 10.4.1.

At this point, I don't know if I want to reinstall the update. My experience with Mac updates is that they sometimes cause as many problems as they solve. Just my experience, your mileage may vary, of course.

I didn't update my sys. for five years and I was happy as a clam. I only went to sys. 10 because I needed it to get the DSL I wanted, since internet pages were becoming hard to load on a dialup connection, especially some of the bloated blogs I read.

Thanks for your replies.

Doesn't work here, only works after you click on the home-icon. Strange.

Quit Help Viewer and delete the folder ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpui
