Hi,

I used a hint on macosxhints.com to set up Apache's webdav so that my wife and I could publish/subscribe calendars from iCal to our sever.

The hint says to set up password protection thus:

>I want this folder protected (somewhat) by a password. To generate the password file
with MD5 passwords (not that old crypt!), please use the -m flag. The file is text. Note that http is vulnarable to sniffing attacks, so someone on your network can get at your password.

% htpasswd -m -c /etc/httpd/.htpasswd user
New password: not_safe
Re-type new password: not_safe
Adding password for user user
>

This works fine until I add a second user/password. If I add myself then my wife's details provoke a 'Login details incorrect' error. If I then add my wife's password using the hint, *my* login breaks. etc, etc. It seems to only be able to deal with one user at a time.

WTF?

The 'server' is running Tiger (Client) and my wife is running Panther.

I'm probably doing something daft. Any ideas?

Thanks

Simon

Read the man page. The -c flag causes your password file to be overwritten.

man htpasswd

Sorry to be rude, but I haven't done what you are talking about, and I found the answer in about 15 seconds. It's a utility you really should be aware of if you are going to use the command line.

Detrius,

Sorry...

I'm not used to man pages. I'll try to remember for next time. I can never get out of the man page when I do remember to use them...

Thanks for your help though.

The 'q' key gets you out. 'q' for quit. 'man' for manual.

Yeah, that's actually annoying. It used to be 'Apple + . '
This new 'q' gets me everytime...
