Hey, this is off topic, but a change in topic(at least related to OS's) should be a welcome area of discussion.
Microsoft has announced their new WIndows Vista. I'm just interested, as they're more than halfway through their development of this new OS, and have yet to deliver any sort of idea of WHAT features are going to be in the OS. Well, they have given a vague list of features, such as Internet Explorer 7, with RSS. (Mac OS X has this). Instant search capabilities. (OS X has this). A vector based interface with 3D effects. (I wouldn't say OS X is 3D, or vector based, but it does scale graphics beautifully. And Apple came up with an OS that had a high resolution interface way before Microsoft even thought twice about it). This new Windows will also have its own Expose 'rip off,' built into it, so it cascades it's windows so users can easily switch between them in a #d sort of environment. Seamless ability to connect devices without hassle. (Heh...OS X does this fabulously, you don't even have to think about it, mostly it's ALL plug and play withour drivers). This is something Microsoft VASTLY needs to improve on! So far, it seems, that there are no new unique ideas. I would commend Microsoft if they could come up with unique new ideas, without having to 'borrow' Apples....but it's a big world of money out there.
Anyone else have any ideas or thoughts on this new Windows Vista?

OS X does composite with opengl & longhorn is going to with WGF (aka DirectX). So in that respect I think they are just as 3D. Even without OpenGL OS X did scale things well though. At this point I think "Vector Based" is marketing hype. To some looking like vectors is enough for them to think it's vectors. Same thing with other hyped up tech flavor of the moment. Some thought OS X was entirely PNG based because it has transparency & scales well but it uses lot of tiff's.

There were once four people named Everybody, Somebody, Nobody and Anybody. Somebody had to do a job, but Nobody wanted to do it. Nobody could see that Anybody could do it, and Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Nobody ended up doing it, and it so happened that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
