I've been a Mac user forever, but like anyone, there's always little holes in my knowledge. So here's a question that's nagged at me forever and I've never asked...

Is there a way (preference, keystroke, shareware) to get OS X to do automatic window resizing? Every time I click forward through my system folders, etc., I have to manually go up and hit the green zoom button to get the window to expand/contract to the shape of it's contents (icon view only, obviously)

Shouldn't there be a way where when you click on a folder, it opens automatically to the size of it's contents?

Have I been missing something for years, or does this functionality not exist?

I don't think it exists, though the thing is that Finder preserves a window's last position and size, so this usually shouldn't be a problem.

So either your Finder doesn't, or your folders have a heavy throughput of files (thus unorganized, in which column view should suffice).
