I work in a lab with about 20 macs that I recently upgraded to Tiger. For the most part this has gone off without a hitch, but a certain application on our video editing Macs has been constantly crashing since the upgrade. I'd like to confirm that it's a problem with Tiger by reinstalling Panther. The only problem is that I've managed to loose my 10.3 install disc. Now I have stacks of system restore discs with 10.3 on them, but none for the machine that I'm trying to wipe out. The installer tells me that the "additional software" can not be installed on this machine.

So...any thoughts on how I might use a system restore disc just to get a bare 10.3 on a machine it wasn't designed for?

Thanks for any suggestions.

This is not likely a problem with 10.4:

You probably have corrupt data on the hard drive. This could come from a hosed directory structure (DiskWarrior and reinstall), bad hard drive, or memory errors.

If wiping the hard drive and reinstalling 10.3 fixes the problem, then wiping and reinstalling 10.4 probably would have too. Before wasting your time with a reinstall, verify the machine first.

I should clarify that this is in fact what I did.

-Wiped and Re-Partitioned HD
-Clean Install of 10.4
-Installed Sorenson Squeeze (the software in question that's crashing) and Handbrake
-Any use of Squeeze results in a couple hours worth of work, and then it "unexpectedly quits".

I've posted to the Sorenson forums and emailed tech support, neither of which garnered any responses which is why I haven't posted here trying to actually solve that problem. I figured I'll just go back to what actually worked sine I'm under a bit of a deadline. All three systems were rock solid under 10.3 and unusable under 10.4.
