Hey guys, need some help with this one.
Trying to install tiger on my tibook- the installer took a long time during the 'verify target disk' phase, and then returned the message that the disk was in need of repair and could not be installed on. I used disk repair and it has returned the result that the disk is in need of repairs but cannot be repaired... My comp runs fine, i have never seen any symptoms of whatever damage there may be, and feel that tiger could probably run just as well as 10.3.9 is currently...
so rather than shell out for some other disk utility that may or may not repair whatever the damage is, and without performing a clean install and thrashing with the hassle of backing up everything on my comp...
does anyone know if there is a way to circumvent the disk verification of the install process or otherwise bypass the need to verify the disk? (perhaps by running the installer through the terminal with certain permissions enabled or what not?) if anyone has any suggestions or a similar question has been posted that i missed.. any and all feed back is most welcome.
thanx!

The very first thing you should do is backup your data.
There is no point in circumventing the verification process to install a new OS on a dying HD.
Backup, fix your drive (/get a new one), install Tiger.

backup. erase and install. if disk utility still lists problems, get a new HD.

Drives often come with three years of warranty now, so you'll often get a replacement for free. But don't use a computer with a disk you know you can't rely on.

The verification phase of the installer? Are you talking about the part where it checks the installer disk? It has a skip button, but if it's failing that, you need a new installer disk.
Also, the directory structure check has nothing to do with whether or not you have a bad hard drive. You may have bad blocks corrupting the directory structure, or you may just have a corrupt directory structure. Either way, you need a better utility than Apple provides to find out. Circumventing this process will easily result in you losing vital files on your hard drive--regardless of how well 10.3.9 is working now.
