I have a DP G5 2GHz with two internal SATA drives. In the past, I have usually used Carbon Copy Cloner to backup from one drive to the other to create two identical drives at a point in time.

Since upgrading to Tiger, Carbon Copy Cloner does not work, and it was suggested I try Apple's Disk Utility to "Restore" to the back up drive. This fails due to some permissions related issues.

I have tried "SuperDuper!" as well, and this also fails. I get this in the log:

I believe there might be a permissions issue, since I cannot even drag my users folder to the back up drive to manually copy it, since it fails with "There are items with special permissions which cannot be copied..." but I cannot figure out what those are. I thought it might be the

"/Users/rlmorel/Movies/FINAL CUT PRO CAPTURE AND SAVE FOLDER-DO NOT DELETE/FINAL CUT PRO VIDEO CAPTURE FOLDER/Capture Scratch/Bob and Kathleens Wedding/Wedding Party at front from back"

folder, and changed permissions on it to mirror those of other items, but all attempts to copy my Users folder fails.

Any help would be appreciated...

CCC works again with 10.4.2. SuperDuper http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDup...scription.html works with 10.2.8 to 10.4.2

CCC also works in Tiger using Psuedo.

If you follow the tips at Bombich Software Forums , Carbon Copy cloner works fine with 10.4.2, without using Pseudo, or anything else

You need to do a few preparatory things, like format the new drive with Disk Utility, and repair permissions on your source drive first (although you can use CCC's preferences to do this automatically each time). You also need to be logged in as either administrator, or root, for it to work.

CCC version 3 is apparently in the works (supposed to have further enhancements), but v. 2.3 works just fine for Tiger, despite what some forum users post. I know, because I just used it last night to copy my old 80GB Toshiba HD to my new Seagate 5400.2 120GB HD - it worked flawlessly, as I'm using my upgraded TiBook with it now!
