hi
using os9.2.2
when I go to put a dvd in- it mounts etc -but doesn't open apple dvd player
when I go and open dvd player myself it says"apple dvd player cannot open because the required hardware can't be found".
I have pioneer dvd-rw installed - on my powermac g3 (g4 upgrade)
any ideas what the problem might be?

has dvd player ever worked with this drive or did you just do the installation of the drive?

you might try http://www.versiontracker.com/macos/ and search for an app that plays DVDs.
If apple's dvd player is telling you it can't find the proper hardware, the software may not see your new drive as a dvd-capable device.
Using a 3rd-party program to choose the disc or it's video_ts folder may be the best solution.

are you using a dual monitor? - i think i used to get that message on my old pismo with an external monitor attached if i tried to play a DVD. it was because the built in VRAM wasn't enough to power the external monitor and play a DVD at the same time.
