K. for some reason I'm getting that stupid "firewall unavailable" glitch, and what's different about my case is that I have NOT installed any third party firewall software. I checked the library/startup items folder, and the only thing in there was Adobe Version Cue, which has been in there forever. Have any ideas? I'm running tiger, and the only recent apps I've installed have been pocketmac, and Tech Tool Pro 4.

You double checked settings in Preferences > Sharing?

Yep. Turns out when I quit pocketmac, it was allowed to work. I have no idea why pocketmac would affect the firewall, but whatever.

Actually wait. I just checked again, and it's unavailable again. WTF. Pocketmac is screwing up the firewall somehow. :|

In order for the PocketPC to synchronize, it needs access to ports 5678 and 5679. I would suppose that PocketMac is performing some system calls to ipfw to add these rules to the list. I don't use PocketMac but I would guess that there must be some information on the developer's website with information about the problem.

The only thing I could suggest otherwise is to go to the terminal and "sudo ipfw list", that should give you an idea of which rule numbers PocketMac is adding.

You could possibly add these rules to your Sharing preferences after executing "sudo ipfw flush." Note: this will temporarily remove every rule in your firewall settings so use this with care. You can manually add the rules from the System preference only when the rules have been flushed.

I would hope that PocketMac checks ipfw before adding the rules, but again, I don't use PocketMac...
