Ok, I'm not sure if this question seems noobish, but I am having this problem.

When I turned on the computer this morning, (not too long ago) everything seemed normal. Except when I logged in, the Finder didn't load. The dock worked fine and everything, so I could run applications and stuff as long as they were in my dock. (The menubar would not appear until I launched an app, but the items in it did--date, wireless, volume etc) So after I try a few times to relaunch the not responding Finder, I decide to restart.

Second time the machine boots up, it takes forever to load the login window. (Well, compared to what I've gotten used to on the Mac) It finally did, so I log in. The same thing happens. I relaunch the Finder a few times, but nothing happens. I then decide to just wait it out. I'm not sure how long it took, but a decent amount of time later, the icons on the desktop suddenly appear, and my Finder is working.

Nothing was malfunctioning when I shut it down last night.

If it matters:
I am using a Dual 2.5 PowerMac G5, 2.5 GB RAM, running OSX 10.3.9 "Panther."

"In a world without walls or fences, what need have we for windows or gates?"

Put the Mac OS X Installation CD into the computer. Reboot (or boot) you computer while holding down the C key (so that it boots from the Installer CD). When the installer comes up select Disk Utility from (depending on system version) either the Installer or the Utilities menu. In Disk Utility do "Repair Disk" on the boot disk until it says the disk appears to be OK.
