Hi all

I backed up my drive with CCC yesterday. I cloned it onto a new Powerbook. I've got various problems, some of which I've fixed. Two are bugging me though.

1. If I take, for example, an image or a file and drag it to the dock and onto the relevant application, nothing happens. Usually I'll take an AVI and drop it onto VLC or take a URL and drop it onto Safari. Now however, this doesn't work. It's as if the dock isn't there.

2. Some applications are not recognised as being able to open certain types of files. For example:

This shows that OSX doesn't know if preview can open image files. If I only ask the system to open with reccomended applications it doesn't allow me to choose it. Also, if I make preview open image files by default (color utility is set as default by the system for some reason) on the desktop, if I have an image, the thumbnail doesn't show up. Eg:

I've got all the settings to make the thubm appear but it doesn't work. It's as if there's soimething wrong with preview.

I could reinstall everything again but I'd rather not. The dock issue and the preview issue is killing me I can't work it out.

Any ideas?

How did you use CCC? It has some incompatibility issues with Tiger unless you use a workaround (such as running CCC via Psudeo).

I used it straight out of the box. I've asked around and lots of people have said it runs fine. Assuming it is incompatible, do you think I should do a full reinstall or try to fix these issues?

Yes, do a resintall just to be safe. If you were moving stuff from one Mac to a new PB, you should be using the Migration Assistant anyways.

Ok, damm Hoping I could get away with it. I couldn't use Migration assistant as I had to take my old Powerbook back to the Apple store. It had a few problems.

CCC can be used with Tiger but you need to doa few tweaks. I've been using Pseudo as it's the easiest. Just open the app and drop CCC into it and it works just fine after that.

To me, that looks like a LaunchServices cache problem. Try going into /Library/Caches and deleting any files whose names start with com.apple.launchservices. Then reboot and see if this continues. Easier than doing a reinstall, anyway.

Ok, I tried that but it didn't help.
