Hey guys,

I have two Brother printers. One is a MFC 5440CN and the other one is a Laser HL 1440. The laser worked fine in Mac OS X.4 and works fine with a PC (tried it this morning thinking the movers had f'ed it up). I installed the software for the MFC, which works fine, and I had not tested the laser until today.

Now, the laser spools for a bit and then I get a status message that says: printer is not responding. I deleted the MFC and deleted anything that had to do with Brother's MFC tools suite (through spotlight searches).

I installed GIMP Print and have downloaded the drivers from Brother for the HL 1440. I've deleted it/added it numerous time. I've restarted. Still nothing.

Is there a way to reset OS X printing? Any other ideas?

I have a Brother 3100C and it hasn't printed in ages under os x. I was looking over the quick set-up installation instructions the other day and got an idea. Note...I haven't tried this yet, I will when I have time.

In the install instructions, it makes a BIG deal about not having the printer plugged in or connected to the Mac when installing the drivers.

The idea is to start from square one, trashing all the drivers and re-installing while the printer is OFF. After restart (if one is required with os x), then connect the printer and then plug it in.

If this applies to your situation and ends up working, let me know.
