Hello,

I've put together a guide for building a web server running Apache 1.x, PHP 4.x, MySQL 4.x, and phpMyAdmin.

http://www.netmusician.org/wiki/inde...th_DarwinPorts

This guide will help users install these components in a way that will cooperate with Apple's installed versions of these same components. If you use OS X Server, you can continue to use the Server Admin GUI to administrate your server. If you use OS X Client, you can still enable and disable the web server through System Preferences.

I'm not a web server expert, but have you considered this: MAMP

It will not interfere at all with the installed components that come with OS X. Or so they say. I downloaded/installed last night. Haven't tried it out yet. I have used Lamp (Linux)and Wamp (Windows).
