I know this may be a dumb question, but I searched and searched, and I can't find a thread that talks about this, so I was just wondering if there were any keyboard shortcuts (laptop keyboard) for acute accents? I'm taking Spanish and it'd help a lot (rather than copy and paste).
Thanks!

Go to System Preferences>International>Input Menu and activate Keyboard Viewer. Then, from the flag menu in the menubar select Keyboard Viewer. A window looking like the keyboard will appear. Hold down option and option-shift to see what characters will be inputted when you use the combination. Characters with a box around them indicate that the accent will be applied to the next character typed (edit, in Tiger this has changed - the boxed characters are now highlighted using an orange background).

You can also just press ´ ¨ and ~ , when they turn yellow just press the key you want the accent join to, like this: á, ä and ã.

Much better than some dumb character map in a little window where you have to copy and paste each symbol. What a stupid idea that would be.

The upside-down question mark is Shift-Opt-/ (and the question mark is Shift-/).

Cool. Was unaware of the Keyboard Viewer! I had just enabled Special Charcarters in my apps, an dug through the windows until I found the one I wanted... the Keyboard Viewer is a nice addition.
Thx

FWIW, Keyboard Viewer (which was originally a separate application called Key Caps) has been a part of the Mac OS since (at least) System 7, I think... definitely OS 8 and 9. The only difference is that, since OS X, Apple has constantly changed the way you access it and the way it looks. However, it now looks a lot better than it once did, and they seem to have stuck to keeping it as a part of the Input menu in the change from Panther to Tiger.
