I'm on 10.4.2 and I find it surprising that I can't take a snapshot (command+shift+3) while I pay a DVD movie on DVD Player.

in 10.3.9, I can do that.... but not in 10.4.2.

I've used the free DVD Capture many times. See Version Tracker @

Or you can use the dashboard widget named Capture.

I'm surprised to hear that you could somehow do this in 10.3.9, because screenshot functionality in DVD player has been disabled by Apple since Mac OS 9.

The function has NEVER been allowed.

The Capture widget works (DVD Player window image) with a MDD PowerMac but doesn't work with a Yosemite (B&W) G3 PowerMac :-/

No, they kinda lapsed during some versions of Mac OS X and let you take screenshots.

Or rather than using a different capture tool, just use VLC. (I use it exclusively anyway since not all of my DVDs are Region 1.)
